Accelerated Orthodontics (AOO/Wilckodontics)

With the AOO procedure, patients who would have declined orthodontics due to the length of treatment or because they wanted to avoid Orthognathic Surgery now have a viable alternative. Typically this would be adolescents who do not want to wear braces for 1 1/2 to 3 years while in high school and adults whose social or professional responsibilities would preclude their wearing braces for a long period of time.
What is AOO/Wilckdontics?
Years of research has culminated in the development in 1998 of an advanced procedure by which teeth can be moved approximately 2-3 times faster than ever before possible with conventional orthodontics. As a result, the treatment time for most orthodontic cases can be reduced to 6 to 9 months. This method is a combination of time-tested and proven techniques from the fields of Orthodontics and Periodontics.
AOO harnesses the power of bone physiology by changing how your teeth and surrounding bone respond to braces. By stimulating the bone and gum tissues, your teeth can be made to move through the bone very rapidly and safely. When the braces are removed, the tooth movement is completed and the bone around the roots of the teeth will rebuild itself, even stronger than before.
Dr. Miller has treated numerous cases with AOO — more than almost any orthodontist in the entire United States. He has lectured nationally to General Dentists, Orthodontists and Surgeon about the benefits of AOO.
How does it work???
AOO accomplished by combining efficient orthodontic mechanics by Dr. Miller with alveolar decortication and augmentation techniques in an Oral Surgeon or Periodontist. The end result is straight teeth, a structurally sound periodontium, and patients that are extremely grateful.
The first step is having the braces placed on all of your teeth by Dr. Miller. The following day, the AOO procedure is done in an office setting under IV sedation. The procedure involves stippling and scoring of the cortical bone around the teeth that are to be moved, in addition to bone grafting. This creates a temporary ‘softening’ of the new bone around teeth and allows the orthodontist to move the teeth into ideal positions in a rapid, safe and stable manner.
Because the teeth move so fast, you will visit your orthodontist every 2 weeks to adjust your braces. When treatment is completed in 6 to 9 months, retainers are used to keep your smile looking beautiful for years to come.
